What is pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle-based sport that is played on a court, similar to tennis, but with some key differences. The paddles are smaller and do not have the mesh found on a tennis racket, while the ball is a wiffle ball instead of a tennis ball. Over the past several years, pickleball has become an increasingly popular way to get some exercise while also competing with friends, especially because it is generally considered low-impact compared to other sports, like tennis. Pickleball is a great way to get active and is a fun option here at our Smoky Mountain campground. Pickleball can either be played as a 1 vs. 1 game (singles) or 2 vs. 2 (doubles). Doubles is generally the most common way to play.
How is a pickleball court different from a tennis court?
Pickleball courts are smaller than tennis courts, and the lines are drawn in different places. The smaller size of the pickleball court is part of why the game is generally easier to pick up than tennis!
How is pickleball played?

Only the serving team can score points in a round, and this is achieved when that team hits the ball into the opposing side of the court, and the other team fails to return it. This can happen on the serve, or at any point afterwards. One team continues serving until they lose a rally, at which point the serve passes to the other side. Each time the ball is hit from one side to the other, it must be allowed to bounce at least once before being hit again. Games usually go to 11 points, and the winning team must win by 2. There are a few more rules, but this covers the basics of pickleball! You can check out USA Pickleball’s guide to the game for more information right here.
Where are our pickleball courts located?
Our pickleball courts are located next to our office, near the basketball court and dog park.
