There is no doubt that one of the top reasons to choose our campground for your next Smoky Mountains camping trip is the abundance of opportunities to get out and explore the area’s natural beauty during your stay. With more than 800 miles of trails at Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and even more local spots to explore, there is no shortage of places to go hiking during your next visit. Today, we are going to be sharing some of the top Smoky Mountain hikes that you can check out while staying with us, all located within an hour’s drive or less from our Sevierville campground:
1. Cataract Falls Trail

The first hike on our list is Cataract Falls Trail, which is located about 30 minutes from our campground and offers an ideal hike for families! The trail is relatively short, with a 1.1-mile round trip total, and features minimal elevation gain. Cataract Falls themselves make for an excellent view, standing at 25 feet tall. Plus, the hike to and from the waterfall is pleasant as well, with views of Fighting Creek, and a footbridge that takes you across the creek.
2. Cove Hardwood Nature Trail
Next, we have the Cove Hardwood Nature Trail, which is another short hike that features plenty of views of the natural beauty of the Smokies, and is located about 35 minutes away from our campground. As you hike through this lush forest, you can see a wide range of plants, including tons of wildflower blooms in the springtime, and an impressive variety of trees. Keep in mind that this trail does feature several sets of stairs, as well as uneven terrain in certain spots, so it is highly recommended that hikers wear sturdy shoes and exercise caution.
3. Grotto Falls Trail

Another of the Smoky Mountain hikes that you can check out while staying with us is Grotto Falls Trail. This 2.6-mile roundtrip hike is located off the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, around 45 minutes away from our Sevierville campground. With a hike that takes you through old growth forest and a destination in Grotto Falls that is the only waterfall in the Smoky Mountains where visitors can walk behind the falls, there are plenty of reasons to love this hike. Plus, you can also drive the rest of the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail for a nice scenic drive where you can sometimes spot black bears in the trees!
4. Spruce Flats Falls Trail
Finally, we have Spruce Flats Falls Trail, which is the farthest of these Smoky Mountain hikes from our campground, but well worth it! It takes just under an hour to reach the trailhead from River Cove Campground, and this 1.8-mile round trip hike leads to a four-tiered waterfall that stands at 30 feet tall! Additionally, this is a quieter trail where visitors can often spot wildlife, such as salamanders by the falls, and more.
When you check out some of these awesome Smoky Mountain hikes, you will be able to see for yourself why the area is regarded as one of the most beautiful in the entire United States!
